8/19/03 Summer is finally winding down. Interesting surgery case today. Four month old kitten started vomiting yesterday. Couldn't keep much of anything down. After exam suspected she swallowed foreign body. Diagnostic procedures were declined and only meds were desired by client yesterday. Returned today, and we did an exploratory. One piece of plastic and 2 pieces of shoestring were removed from the small intestines. She is recovering well and fortunately there was minimal damage to the intestines. :-)

11/15/03 Very interesting case. Two month old kitten on well-check exam revealed a heart murmur called a machinery murmur. This happens when there is a shunt between the two major vessels called the aorta and pulmonary artery. If not corrected, this murmur can dramatically shorten the animals lifespan. Dr. Johnsen and I waited until the kitten was approximately 4 months old, then performed surgery on him to close the shunt. The kitty did fine through the surgery, woke up from anesthesia, ran around the cage and immediately inhaled a can of food. The heart murmur was totally gone. Follow-up one month later and he is doing wonderful.
